Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral?

No, a referral is not required to see an Osteopath. We are Primary Healthcare Practitioners.

However, if you have a referral from a fellow healthcare practitioner, please bring along any documentation, scans or letters you may have.

What happens during a typical consultation?

A new consultation lasts 45-60 minutes. It involves recording a thorough medical history, followed by an examination that may include physical, orthopaedic or neurological testing. Following diagnosis and explaining the examination findings, the remainder of the consult will consist of treatment, rehabilitation and advice. Please arrive 5 minutes early for the first consult for relevant paperwork.

Subsequent consults are roughly 30 minutes and require less depth of questioning, allowing for greater time spent for the remaining re-examination, treatment, rehabilitation and advice.

Depending on the required treatment, you may be asked to disrobe to allow treatment to the affected area. This will only be done with consent and always take into account modesty and comfort.

What can be claimed?

  • Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) plan holders: Bring along your Medicare card and GP referral to allow for on the spot return of the rebate. A gap payment may be applicable.
